How big a bank roll do I need to play blackjack, and what is the probability of losing it?

jrshannie asked:

I want to play blackjack online. How big of a bankroll do i need compared to the bets Im making? I have an overdraft of £1000 how large are the bets I can make? And what is the chance of losing all this £1000? I don’t want to lose it all so should me bankroll be money that I don’t mind losing?

Thanks
The reason I want to know this is to get the casino bonuses online that are offered. If I deposit 100£ and the bonus is 100 and with 0.04% house edge after playing £4000, my expectiation is to lose £16. But if this gets me the bonus then I will be up £84.
Id like to know the chance of losing £100 for different sized bets instad of £16 as this would mean I am no longer in profit after getting the bonus. This is so I could know what my chances are of breaking even if betting say £5 rather than £1, and thus I could decide how much to bet
Thanks

  1. blackjack is a game of house advantage so whatever strategy ou choose you will probably lose, but if you dont mind losing this money then its okay, you can put a sum that wont make you feel bad for losing it.

Don’t play blackjack online… go to a casino. There you can pick the level of table you want, 5, 10, 25, 100, 500 minimum bets. And playing with people is more fun. Online shoes could have an infinite number of decks in them, I don’t know really. In a casino, there will be 5 or 6, allowing easier card tracking (counting).
Don’t play with money you aren’t willing to lose. I play at the lowest table I can find a seat at, even if I go in with $1000. I set a limit. If I’m down to 25% of what I started with, I leave. On the other hand, if I’m up 250%, i leave also.
To play smarter blackjack, research the hands. Don’t do silly things like splitting tens or doubling down on hard 12. Decide wether to hit or stand on 16, and do it EVERY TIME. Find a system that works for you, and stick to it. I’ve made lots of money playing blackjack. It’s fun!

Its depends on how much of it you put into action per bet, how many bets you place, and your playing strategy.

Its a very complicated area refferred to as “risk of ruin” or RoR for short.

It involves complex formulas with input variables that are complex to figure, and often arnt known by the average gambler.

Heres a solid fact for you to consider though, no matter what you do, the probibility of you losing it will be higher than the probibility of doubling it. And the probibility of losing all of it will approach 100% as you play more and more trials.

    Dont play blackjack online.
